After the Show

Go there first at least once before the show begins and watch them come. Then stay until the end and watch their backs go. They all come their own way, sit in their seats, and do their part, and finally all go back to the way they came. What you saw today is the same as what you saw yesterday, what you heard today is the same as what you heard yesterday, and what you knew today is the same as what you knew yesterday. The generations before you were like that, and the generations after you will be like that. Some in front and some in back, some in rush and some in ease, some in joy and some in sorrow, each goes their own way. The ways are winding like snakes, and at the end they enter the big red mouth of the serpent. There is no more light, sound, or fragrance in them. But remember, even though the lights go out in the theater and all the doors are closed, the limping, hunched manager still has the master key.
