The reason the world winnows you is to reveal your righteousness within you. Because of that righteousness, it wants to exalt you and make you a light in this dark world. But when God winnows you, He wants to reveal your sins within you. Because of that sins, He wants to kill you and give you the new life, and make you a light in this dark world. If you want to reveal your righteousness to the world, your sins will remain, and one day all the light of your righteousness will disappear into the darkness of your sins. That is why God is looking for your sins, not your righteousness. If you don't have the darkness of sins, you don't have the light of eternal new life.
