The trees burned out in the kiln and only charcoal was left. Pure is something like that. How trees are burned in the sun, you can see that just by looking at the shadows on the ground. Empty is something like this. They retain heat in the pure empty shell that remains burnt. It will revive with charcoal fire in the middle of a long cold winter.
